The Back Who Could Practice Stopped Practicing

The Back Who Could Practice Stopped Practicing

By GH | thegavfather.com

Last Tuesday I told you to take TreVeyon Henderson because he could practice.

He has not practiced since August 24.

I am not making this up. That is the official Week 1 injury report for tomorrow's Kickoff Game, which is on a Wednesday, which is still illegal, which we already yelled about, and which is somehow still happening.

The National Football League โ€” a large American organization that schedules football the way a toddler schedules naptime โ€” opens the season tomorrow night with a Super Bowl rematch (Patriots at Seahawks, 8:20 p.m. ET). Then, on Thursday, it asks the 49ers and Rams to play in Melbourne, Australia, on Netflix, at 8:35 p.m. ET, which is Friday morning for the humans who live there. Sunday is when the cowards play.

In between those facts, the Offer I sold you last week got an ankle.

An anthropology of "did not participate"

On the Patriots' Week 1 report, TreVeyon Henderson is listed as Did Not Participate. Reporting around that line says he is unlikely for tomorrow. If you drafted him off last week's column as your RB2: you own a second-year back who is currently a spreadsheet entry, and a veteran named Rhamondre Stevenson who is currently a person.

Our Sept. 7 Half-PPR file has Henderson at overall 70. Stevenson is overall 73. That is not "committee." That is two names sitting next to each other while one of them sits out practice. Monitor the final inactive list before you start either of them like a hero.

I am not walking back the math that put Henderson ahead of consensus when he was practicing. I am walking back the part where I said "take the back who can practice" and then the back stopped practicing. The data updates. So do we.

The new Offer, which is still upright

The live Offer on the homepage this week is Jauan Jennings, WR โ€” MIN.

We have him WR44. The market has him WR64. That is a 20-spot positional gap โ€” the largest model-vs-market spread available this week. He is not on the Exempt List. He is not on PUP. He is not Did Not Participate. He is a receiver the consensus is still filing under "the other guy."

If your league mates are busy explaining Wednesday Night Football like it is a civic holiday, take the discount that is still breathing.

Other gaps the Sept. 7 board is still screaming about, quietly:

None of those are vibes. Those are the arrows on the rankings page.

What actually starts this week

The board, refreshed Sept. 7, still opens Gibbs, Bijan, Chase, Jonathan Taylor, Puka, Amon-Ra, then CMC at 7. Puka is expected for Melbourne; the Rams' Week 1 injury report is currently empty, which in NFL is the medical equivalent of a blank check that still might bounce at the airport.

Early Seattle, while Charbonnet remains furniture on PUP, is still Jadarian Price (our Sept. 7 file: overall 79). Price is not a sleeper tip. He is the back who made the 53 and can practice on a Wednesday.

Josh Jacobs is still on the Commissioner's Exempt List. We already covered that. Roger still does not answer group texts. Do not pay RB2 for a man on a thinking list.

What you do before 8:20 tomorrow

  1. Henderson: sit until he practices. Stevenson absorbs the early work if Henderson is inactive. Do not "trust the process" into a DNP.
  2. Jennings: the Offer is the Offer. WR44 vs WR64 is not a personality.
  3. Jeanty / Skattebo / Nico: the BUY arrows are still up. Use them if your draft is tonight.
  4. Wednesday / Melbourne: start your studs, including the ones playing on a wrong day and a wrong continent. The calendar is the league's problem. Your lineup is yours.

An offer your roster can't refuse.
