The Biggest Winners
Justin Herbert, QB — Los Angeles Chargers
Mike McDaniel was an NFL head coach. He voluntarily stepped down to become Herbert's offensive coordinator.
That is not a lateral move. That is someone seeing something special and doing whatever it takes to be part of it.
McDaniel's scheme: motion heavy, quick release, designed to neutralize pass rush before it forms. Herbert called it "an oasis in the desert."

Zay Flowers, WR — Baltimore Ravens
New Ravens OC Declan Doyle came from Ben Johnson's staff in Chicago where his offense ran the second highest play action rate in the NFL in 2025.
He plans to significantly increase Lamar Jackson's passing volume in 2026. Flowers is the primary target in that offense.

Sam LaPorta, TE — Detroit Lions
New Lions OC Drew Petzing made Trey McBride a star in Arizona with his TE-heavy scheme. LaPorta has a similar athletic profile and now plays in Detroit's elite offensive system.
The Gavfather System applies plus 9 percent for Petzing's TE usage tendencies. The market has LaPorta outside the top 5 at TE. We have him TE3.
James Cook, RB — Buffalo Bills
New Bills OC Pete Carmichael comes from the Sean Payton tree where the RB screen game has always been a valued piece of the offense.
Cook is the perfect fit for that role. The Gavfather System applies plus 4 percent. The market has him RB17. We have him RB6.
The Biggest Concerns
Jalen Hurts, QB — Philadelphia Eagles
Sean Mannion has never called a play at the NFL level. He was a backup quarterback. He was a QB coach. Now he is running the Eagles offense.
Hurts has never played for a first-time OC. The Gavfather System applies minus 6 percent for the uncertainty. The market still has Hurts as a top 5 QB. We have him QB7 with an injury risk flag.
Brock Bowers, TE — Las Vegas Raiders
Andrew Janocko has never been an offensive coordinator at any level of professional football. First time ever. Maximum uncertainty for every Raiders player.
The Gavfather System applies minus 7 percent. The market has Bowers as a top 3 TE. We have him TE4 with a significant uncertainty discount.
Derrick Henry, RB — Baltimore Ravens
The same Declan Doyle who helps Zay Flowers hurts Derrick Henry. More passing volume means fewer carries. The model applies minus 5 percent to Henry's projection.
He is 32. The age cliff penalty already applies. Now add the scheme change on top.
The market still reaches for Henry as a top 15 RB. The Gavfather has him RB9 with both flags active.
The Teams Nobody Is Talking About
Cleveland Browns — Travis Switzer, new OC
Switzer came from Baltimore where the Ravens led the NFL in rushing yards per game under his coordination. He brings that identity to Cleveland.
If the Browns have a competent RB — and with Darnold gone they are starting fresh at multiple positions — the run game volume will be there. Worth monitoring for late round RB value.
Los Angeles Chargers — full system upgrade
McDaniel does not just help Herbert. The entire offense runs differently. Omarion Hampton as a rookie RB in a Shanahan outside zone scheme is exactly the profile that produces early breakouts. He is a late round target with real upside.
What This Means For Your Draft
21 coordinator changes means 21 offenses running different plays, different personnel groupings, different usage patterns than anything you studied from 2025.
The players who benefit most are the ones whose new coordinator fits their skill set better than the old one did.
The players who get hurt are the ones whose role shrinks in the new scheme — or whose coordinator has never called a play before.
